With how rapidly technology has expanded in recent years and the capabilities of artificial intelligence, it's no surprise that many in creative roles are fearful of the future for human designers. While artificial intelligence is capable of many things, having that human touch that designers have is never going to be one of them. Artificial Intelligence is merely that: artificial. At this point, it is incapable of the creative thought process and wit that many designers have today.

THE HUMAN TOUCH

Each designer has their own unique style and approach to design briefs. While artificial intelligence is able to understand the surface level of a company and types of logo that may fit their business the best, working with a real designer allows for creativity and collaboration. It also allows for the expansion of ideas. For example, a client may believe that they have their heart set on a concept and run with whatever artificial intelligence produces for them; however, by working alongside a designer, they can try new, out-of-the-box ideas that they would not have even thought of on their own. This human ability to experiment and incorporate aspects of their branding in a new, innovative way is something that, at this point, artificial intelligence is incapable of doing.

COMMUNICATION

As I previously mentioned, communication is key when working with clients. While artificial intelligence can go back and forth on ideas. When you build rapport with clients and understand their needs and desires for the branding you create, you end up understanding the ins and outs of their company, beyond the information they initially provide. Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, can only help someone with the amount of information they provide. Additionally, while you may ask for artificial intelligence to improve upon the output, it is incapable of properly making the exact changes you have in mind, even if you explain it to the best of your ability. On the other hand, when working with a real designer, you have much clearer communication strategies to explain your thought process, ideas, and aid clients through the revision process.

ETHICS

As we have seen with recent companies, utilize AI, many face backlash from their reliance on technology. While companies try to integrate the technologies into their marketing and branding strategies, many attentive consumers call them out for these actions. This is due to the ethics behind artificial intelligence. Beyond just the surface level, reliance on technology rather than human talents, many dislike the environmental impacts of artificial intelligence. These moral and environmental concerns have led many to dislike larger corporations that can afford human talent, relying on artificial intelligence for their marketing and design needs. Many have been publicly called out on social media and shamed for these actions, which ultimately hurts the brand in the long run.

As you can see, there are many reasons at this point why brands benefit greatly from utilizing human designers rather than artificial intelligence. Well, it is easy to fall into the traps of artificial intelligence content that may make you feel that your livelihood is being threatened. It is safe to say that there is at least some time before you have to worry about artificial intelligence and fringing in the graphic design industry
