Today, I want to do something a little different and provide you all with a few of the resources I rely on daily as a designer. Between acquiring high-end photographs to finding inspiration, there are many places online that you can acquire such things. I hope that my list provides some clarity and insight into some of the most efficient resources you, as a designer, can utilize.
UNSPLASH
Unsplash.com is a stock photography website that allows you to download free, high-quality imagery. For me personally, this is my go-to website to find all sorts of imagery, as the photographs on the site are taken by professional photographers with high-quality equipment. One of the biggest things as a designer is ensuring what you create does not have copyright conflicts. This issue is avoided as all of the photos on Unsplash are protected under their free-to-use license, which protects users from downloading and using photos on design projects. While I personally frequently use all types of photos on Unsplash, I also happen to use their textures frequently to help elevate my designs
COOLORS
Coolors.co is a color palette generator that allows you to create unique color combinations. It allows you to explore different curated palettes or generate some of your own. You are able to tailor the palette to fit specific colors you have in mind, view how those with color blindness will see your color choices, and create palettes tailored to your specific needs.
COLOUR CONTRAST CHECKER
colourcontrast.cc is an effective tool that allows you to quickly check whether the contrast of the text that you are using is accessible and easily readable. Ensuring this is the case is important to preparing your file to be read by all populations. While you may intend your design to be viewed in the color palette you intended, between differences in printing abilities to ensuring it is visible for those with vision complications. This color contrast checker allows you to see the legibility between two colors, including different text sizes and various color uses.
pintrest.com has been a major source of inspiration for me in recent years. I love scrolling through and finding inivative designs. When working on larger projects, I often use pintrest as a source to create branding moodboards, to find color palettes, and find logos that I am inspired by. Scowering pintrest has honestly been one of the largest factors in me finding my style as a designer and expanding my capabilites as a designer.
ADOBE FONTS
fonts.adobe.com is my go-to site for finding fonts for my projects. It allows you to view various types and styles of fonts and save them directly to your Adobe account. There are days when I spend hours scrolling through their endless font collections to find the perfect typefaces for my design work. Between the font collections available and curated font pairings, I feel that Adobe Fonts has allowed me to elevate my work. The best part of all is that you don't need to worry about licensing as it is included in your subscription.
